Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton
Att: Cathy Calhoun, Regional Representative
Hanley Federal Building, Room 111
100 S. Clinton Street P.O. Box 7378
Syracuse, NY
13261
20 April 2001
Dear Cathy,
I wanted to thank you for the time you and Evan took to
speak with us on Monday regarding Family Law Reform. I was a bit confused by the
overall tone of the meeting and felt we left without really communicating. I
think we could have done a better job in introducing ourselves and describing
some of our basic concerns as parents.
As you know we are not professionals at this. We would
like the Senator to endorse serious Family Law Reform at the Federal level. The
Family Rights Act is our effort to capture some words on paper that reflect
those goals – we need your help in working this through the legislative
process.
I will try to contact you in the next week to setup a
meeting with either of you to begin to review some of the wording in the Act. It
seems we jumped ahead to whether it is a good idea, before we both established a
common understanding of the meaning. Our membership would like her support and
it is important to us to find out what might be objectionable and why. We
understand there is give and take in the process.
Again, thanks for taking the time. You all seemed very
busy that day and I do appreciated your effort to fit us in.
Best regards,
