Aprill,

Got your phone message yesterday (sorry I was out of the office). I have references below to the documents you requested. Instead of faxing them to you -- I have supplied links to our web site where you should be able to print a much better copy of items as needed. This entire letter is a page at the site (http://www.AkidsRight.Org/clinton_notes.htm) which will hopefully make it easy.  I also included a history of our correspondence with the office for background.

Summary Letter (Oct 15,2001) (http://www.AKidsRight.Org/actionb_syr/cover2.htm) - This letter attempts to summarize what our goals are and the issues of Civil Rights protection for families.

Family Rights Act (http://www.AKidsRight.Org/act.htm) - This page contains a link to the draft of legislation we think is necessary to protect the rights of parents and children.  It is a DRAFT and we hope to be able to discuss this further. The basic "idea" is something similar to the Civil Rights Act, which overturned state laws which seemed to clearly violate understood Constitutional protections.

Goals and Approach (http://www.AKidsRight.Org/approach.htm) - This is a little bit about our Group.  There are a lot of people out there active in the reform movement. We hope we can make a unique contribution to the effort.

Expert Testimony (http://www.AKidsRight.Org/legislative_resources.htm) - Some people we have contacted who would be ready to testify before Congress.  One of them is a Constitutional Lawyer who has argued cases in the US Supreme Court.

Earlier Correspondance:

Letter to local office (http://www.AKidsRight.Org/action_syr/clinton-2.htm), 20 April 2001 - Letter to Cathy Calhoun to try to arrange another meeting.  On 23 April, got a letter in response (http://www.AKidsRight.Org/action_syr/clinton-1.gif) to our meeting with local staff, did not seem to be on the topic.

Letter to local office (http://www.AKidsRight.Org/action_syr/clinton-3.htm), 25 June 2001 - Another attempt to arrange meeting.

Letter to Washington office (http://www.AKidsRight.Org/action_syr/clinton-4.htm), 23 Aug 2001 - Letter to Washington office for meeting.

What's next:

Other than a brief meeting with Cathy Calhoun in April of last year.  We have not really had a chance to just sit down with anyone and talk about the issues involved.  I hope we could just get to know each other better and develop some trust as we go into this.  I do not know how often you make it up here to "sunny" Syracuse, but I would welcome the opportunity to site down with you or Cathy and just talk for a bit about what the goals are here.  We would hope Senator Clinton would be able to at least call for Senate Hearings to further investigate this issue.

If you get this okay, you are welcome to call or just send an email to: jmurtari@thebook.com -- my office number is 315-635-1968, x-211.  I look forward to hearing from you.  NOTE - some of the material at the site is 'dated' by recent events, it will be updated soon!

Best Regards!
